Lego was a project to show off The Core’s full range of capabilities as a creative production studio. Impressive modeling, well-executed animation and gorgeous renders set to an over-the-top audio score are perfectly in tune with the fun and excitement that was experienced during the World Cup.
“We want our clients and potential clients to experience quality 3D character animation that’s fun and playful, but also professional – a direct reflection of our attitude as The Core,” says Chad Feeback, Executive Producer/Partner.
For Creative Director/Director Chris Hoffman, the concept was inspired by his childhood in Zimbabwe where Legos were among his favorite toys – and soccer was a popular pastime. “The Lego figure is a worldwide phenomenon enjoyed by many people in many countries, and so is the sport of soccer. I felt that the Lego was the perfect character for this World Cup piece.”
It took the small team of artists over two weeks of pulling late nights and weekends to complete the spot. Hoffman credits the artists for investing their time and passion into the project, which was a labor of love – and one that everyone was proud to be a part of.
Hoffman concludes, “We hope audiences will feel the personal touch of this spot. It tells the story of how the underdog prevails through pure determination and heart. This was an opportunity to show how The Core, a well-respected and growing boutique studio, is capable of doing the A-level work that clients expect from larger companies.”

Toronto, Ontario – April 27th 2010 — Okino Computer Graphics, a leading provider and pioneer of data translation solutions to the DCC/Animation and professional production markets, announced today that its long standing 3D DCC/Animation/Skinning and CAD/MCAD/Architectural conversion software PolyTrans-for-3ds-Max (for 3ds Max 2011 & 3ds Max Design 2011), and PolyTrans-for-Maya (for Maya 2011), are now fully qualified and shipping to customers.
PolyTrans-for-3ds-Max and PolyTrans-for-Maya are two of the most complex technologies developed and deeply integrated into 3ds Max and Maya, having been developed daily by Okino for well over 15 years under the constant use and testing from tens of thousands of the world’s best known companies, from ILM to Disney to Boeing to BMW and almost every top named company, as broken out here: http://www.okino.com/conv/users.htm. This is extremely stable and well refined conversion software. While few initially know of, or believe, that one program exists which does all of these conversions, we have spent 22 years developing the industry standard conversion system for both 3ds Max and Maya that does everything from bidirectional Max/Maya conversions, ideal CAD import from ProE/SolidWorks/CATIA/Inventor/etc, guaranteed animation + skinning conversions, and much more. These are statements of functionality and robustness personally made by the development team at Okino, not a marketing person, and only come about from having this software used in mission critical production pipelines for decades. That is the comforting aspect of using Okino software, knowing that the software has been made stable long ago in real production environments.”

“Our innovative intelligent 3D navigation feature provides a new level of control over the point of interest in 3D designs” said Dieter Neujahr, president of 3Dconnexion. “By automatically establishing and displaying the optimal center of rotation, designers are free to focus more on the creative elements of their designs without having to think about navigating or positioning their model.”
To meet a range of design needs, there are two modes of setting the center of rotation. The new Auto Rotation Center sets the center of rotation to a point on the model that is nearest to the display screen center, which is particularly useful for use at higher zoom levels. For additional control, designers can also easily pick a new center of rotation point on the 3D model to suit their individual design task.
In addition to intelligent 3D navigation, the latest driver update also streamlines the 3Dconnexion 3D mouse user interface within 3ds Max. By using the Menu or Panel button on the 3D mouse, a pop-up menu is activated to centralize all 3D mouse related options into one location. The new pop-up menu simplifies the interface by grouping functions and hiding details the designer may not be interested in. The new menu also minimizes screen clutter and provides designers with a clearer view of their design.

This is the handy toolbox which we will use most often. By default, it comes in one single column as shown in the screenshot above. To switch it back to the old 2 columns toolbox, you can simply click the top left mini arrow to toggle it into 2 columns. Some of the tools like Rectangle have more tools hidden. To expand, just click and hold the icon to reveal all the similar tools under that group.
